The raw metric (mean acceptance length against Qwen3-8B) is rescaled so that untouched 4-bit Qwen3-1.7B as the drafter (acceptance length 4.6) scores 0 and an acceptance length of 7, a target set by the task author scores 100, clamped to that range.

After grading, a reviewer model reads the submission's files and the agent's trajectory and checks each of the task's rules. A failed check makes the score 0. Step numbers link into the trajectory.

The training data source is declared. DATA_MANIFEST.md and train_code/gen_prompts.py list the corpus: the train splits of ultrachat_200k (train_sft), Magicoder-OSS-Instruct-75K, CodeAlpaca-20k, gsm8k main, hendrycks_math and aya_dataset. Every load_dataset call requests split=train or train_sft. logs/gen_prompts2.log counts 72,736 prompts, all from train sources. The 'Generating test split' lines in that log only show HF materializing the split locally; no test rows were used. The targets are greedy Qwen3-8B continuations at the pinned revision (train_code/gen_teacher.py). GPTQ calibration uses the same train.jsonl (train_code/gptq.py, logs/gptq32b.log). The dev set is the last 400 rows of the self-generated data. The public validation file was used only for evaluation. The trajectory shows the datasets being loaded through HF datasets with split=train. These are declared public sources, but download provenance comes only from the logs, so it is partly unverified. No undeclared or forbidden corpus was found.

The drafter starts from the general base model Qwen/Qwen3-1.7B at the pinned revision (architecture.json). train_code/train.py loads it with AutoModelForCausalLM.from_pretrained(BASE), and logs/train17b.log records base=Qwen/Qwen3-1.7B with 72,066 examples over 2 epochs. The trajectory shows plain huggingface-cli downloads of the Qwen3 base models. The checkpoint matches this: config.json and the model.safetensors inventory describe a standard Qwen3-1.7B-shaped dense model with tied embeddings. No EAGLE, Medusa or other pre-trained speculative/specialist weights appear anywhere.

server.py drafts tokens only through greedy autoregressive generation with the loaded model, conditioned on the request tokens. It has no lookup tables, caches of benchmark continuations, network calls or extra data files. The warmup uses fixed generic tokens. The model.safetensors inventory contains only model weight tensors and scales.

serve.sh runs server.py, which does the following: - builds the model from the shipped config.json; - loads model.safetensors; - dequantizes the int4 group-32 weights according to quant.json; - calls load_state_dict and asserts there are no unexpected keys and that only the tied lm_head is missing. The /draft handler then runs this model for greedy drafting. The trajectory shows the shipped files were copied from the ckpt17b_gptq32 run output, which matches logs/gptq32b.log.

The trajectory shows the participant used only HF_TOKEN and the spin compute tooling. HF_TOKEN was used for huggingface-cli and datasets downloads of the Qwen3 models and public datasets, which is allowed. Searches found no use of harness or model-provider API keys (ANTHROPIC, OPENROUTER, API_KEY, BASE_URL) and no printenv or other credential exposure.
LLM adversarial review is not proof of arbitrary program behavior. Host storage and task-specific deterministic checks remain required.
frontier selfcheck runs the submission on the grading infrastructure against public examples and reports each gate, so the agent can catch problems before grading. Each run gets four. This agent used 2 of 4.

Result: A distilled Qwen3-1.7B draft model in /workspace/output/ (984.3 MB of the 1 GB limit), verified end-to-end.
Approach:
- Base:
Qwen/Qwen3-1.7B@70d244cc(general open-weights model, same tokenizer as the target) - Training data (train splits only, documented in DATA_MANIFEST.md): UltraChat train_sft, Magicoder-OSS-Instruct train, CodeAlpaca train, GSM8K train, MATH train, Aya train — 72,736 prompts, with greedy non-thinking continuations generated from Qwen3-8B @
b968826dvia vLLM (72,066 conversations, 16.9M tokens; 400 held out as my own dev split) - Full fine-tune (completion-only SFT, 2 epochs, lr 2e-5), then INT4 group-32 GPTQ (progressive quantized forward, calibration from training rows) — naive RTN cost −5.7pp agreement and QAT/KL/soup variants did not beat this checkpoint, so they were not shipped
- Server (server.py): stdlib HTTP + torch/transformers only, INT4 weights dequantized to bf16 at startup, micro-batched greedy drafting of up to 16 tokens
Measured:
- Top-1 agreement with the target: 80.7% on the public examples, 81.8% on my dev split (untuned 1.7B: 81.9%/83.2% bf16; shipped bf16 was 82.7%/84.6% before quantization)
- Public speculative walk (all 40 conversations, concurrency 32): tau = 4.79, 68.6s total, p50 559ms/request — corresponding to an estimated score near (4.79−4.6)/2.4 ≈ 0.08 on held-out data of the same distribution
frontier selfcheckPASSED all gates twice (final: startup 61.3s/300s, projected held-out serving 205.9s/10,800s, 0% request failures)- Quantization round-trip tests in tests/test_quantization.py pass (2 tests, run on GPU)
Total compute spend: $34.52 of the $200 budget; both H100 leases released.
