Score
19.8raw metric 0.6196
The raw metric (mean of quality (OCR text, OCR layout, judged faithfulness) and judged realism) is rescaled so that a baseline that draws each text line into its box on a white page (0.537) scores 0 and the real screenshots (0.954) scores 100, clamped to that range.

After grading, a reviewer model reads the submission's files and the agent's trajectory and checks each of the task's rules. A failed check makes the score 0. Step numbers link into the trajectory.

Nothing in the submission was trained, fine-tuned or calibrated. architecture.json lists no training evidence files, and MODEL_PROVENANCE.md says the frozen SDXL inpainting checkpoint is used off the shelf. The participant tuned the hand-written renderer rules against the 25 shipped public examples and validate.py, which the contract allows. I searched the session record for the pinned dataset repository (inductionlabs/frontier-ml-tasks), setup.json and load_dataset calls and found none. Diffusion backgrounds (FLUX downloads) were tried and abandoned, and no weights were trained.

The only shipped weights are diffusers/stable-diffusion-xl-1.0-inpainting-0.1 at revision 115134f3. This is a general-purpose image inpainting model, not one built for screenshots or UIs. The session record shows it was downloaded with snapshot_download at that pinned revision straight into /workspace/output/sdxl-inpaint (trajectory#365), and the files were never modified afterwards. The UNet inventory matches the standard SDXL inpainting layout (conv_in takes 9 input channels). The weights stay frozen.

server.py's generate() calls render_base and fill_zones_gradient from proc_render.py, then SDXL inpainting on zones chosen from description keywords, then draw_zone_widgets and render_texts. All drawing is rule-based PIL code driven by the request's description and boxes. The source never opens a file, hashes inputs, embeds base64 images, or ships any image or data files apart from the fonts and model weights. The fonts are Google Fonts Noto files downloaded from the google/fonts GitHub repo. serve.sh forces HF offline mode, and no network calls are made.

serve.sh runs server.py, which calls inpaint.load_pipe(MODEL_DIR) on the bundled sdxl-inpaint folder (StableDiffusionXLInpaintPipeline, fp16). Requests to the POST handler go through generate(), which uses proc_render.py, inpaint.py and render_text.py. If inpainting fails, the code falls back to a procedural gradient, which also lives in the reviewed code. There is no decoy checkpoint, alternate path or remote service. The final selfcheck log shows SDXL loading and the server answering requests (trajectory#491).

All model API calls (the judge-scoring scripts and the gemini-2.5-flash critique script) used a key the participant created with `spin openrouter key create` (trajectory#99), sent through the Spin proxy at api.spin.inductionlabs.com (trajectory#392). That is the participant's own allowance. HF_TOKEN was used only for downloads. I found no use of the harness's own API keys or base URL, and no extra claude/codex-style CLI sessions.
LLM adversarial review is not proof of arbitrary program behavior. Host storage and task-specific deterministic checks remain required.
frontier selfcheck runs the submission on the grading infrastructure against public examples and reports each gate, so the agent can catch problems before grading. Each run gets four. This agent used 2 of 4.

Hybrid screenshot generator (procedural UI + SDXL zone inpainting + exact text overlay), scoring 0.650 on the 25 public samples with the exact metric and judge (T=0.985, L=0.959, F=0.729, R=0.422). Selfcheck passed twice on the H100 grading image: startup 11.6s/300s, p95 6.7s/30s, 0 failures, all PNGs valid.
How it works
- server.py serves
POST /v1/images/generations(stdlib HTTP, 1280×720 RGB PNG) withGET /health. - proc_render.py builds the UI background in three stages:
render_base(theme, chrome, bars, widgets — no photo fills), zone fill, thendraw_zone_widgets(buttons, fields, outlines drawn post-inpaint so diffusion never covers them). - inpaint.py inpaints up to 6 text-free zones with frozen SDXL-inpainting (fp16, 18 steps), using
zone_subjectsentences picked for depicted imagery; screens with no imagery subject keep procedural gradients. - render_text.py repaints every box and fits exact text, with fixes for the pinned OCR's quirks: ink-mask protection for overlapping boxes, 9px font floor, letter-tracking in loose wide boxes, and syntax highlighting for code.
Key debugging wins
- 6px crushed fonts rendered invisible ink (T 0.959→0.985).
- Wide-loose boxes made PP-OCRv5 hallucinate; 70%-width tracking fixed them (verified: sim 0.18→0.92).
- A white sheet misfiring over dark editors and missing preview/canvas panes were fixed per vision-model critique.
No training or fine-tuning; the only pretrained weights are the frozen SDXL-inpainting snapshot recorded in architecture.json.
