After grading, a reviewer model reads the submission's files and the agent's trajectory and checks each of the task's rules. A failed check makes the score 0. Step numbers link into the trajectory.

architecture.json declares a LoRA SFT of Qwen2.5-VL-7B-Instruct at a pinned revision, using 40k SciTikZ-230K examples for 2500 steps. evidence/train.py implements this: LoRA r64 on the language-model projections, the eval prompt, and masked prompt tokens. evidence/train_main.log and evidence/trainer_state.json show 40000 examples, 2500/2500 steps and train_loss 0.348. The trajectory shows the run launched on the cc594898 snapshot (trajectory#158) and finishing with the same final metrics (trajectory#332). The runs/main/final adapter was then merged with evidence/merge_lora.py (trajectory#333; model/MERGE_INFO.txt). The corpus source is declared with a pinned revision and download command; evidence/download_data.py retains that download.

The base is the general-purpose Qwen/Qwen2.5-VL-7B-Instruct at revision cc594898. It was downloaded through snapshot_download in the trajectory, and the training launch and model/MERGE_INFO.txt reference that same snapshot. The weight inventory matches the Qwen2.5-7B language-model shapes, in BF16, with LoRA already merged. No download or use of a TikZ-specialist checkpoint (e.g. SciTikZer) appears anywhere.

Training data comes from SciTikZ-230K, which is allowed, at a pinned revision. evidence/dataprep.py applies static filters and explicitly keeps the public dev items out of the internal holdout. evidence/data_manifest.md and architecture.json state that SciTikZ-Bench was never used. The trajectory shows no download or use of benchmark test data. Serving config and checks used only the 50 public dev examples, which is allowed. A local download log for the dataset was not retained, so provenance is recorded as declared but unverified.

serve.sh serves the fine-tuned VLM through vLLM's OpenAI-compatible server, with no retrieval, templates or post-processing. The model was trained to emit complete fenced TikZ/LaTeX source (evidence/train.py). A trajectory test shows it generating an editable standalone TikZ document from an image (trajectory#334-335).

serve.sh installs vllm==0.9.2 offline from the vendored wheels, which have approved trusted binary digest audits. It sets HF_HUB_OFFLINE and TRANSFORMERS_OFFLINE and runs the vLLM api_server with --model $ROOT/model. The shipped model directory holds the merged safetensors shards that were inventoried. The trajectory shows the merged model being tarred, uploaded and extracted into the output model directory.

The trajectory shows no use of harness credentials such as ANTHROPIC or other model-API keys, and no external model-API calls from candidate code. API_KEY and BASE_URL appear only in spin CLI help text, and spin compute use is allowed. HF_TOKEN was used only for permitted downloads. The serving path runs fully offline.
LLM adversarial review is not proof of arbitrary program behavior. Host storage and task-specific deterministic checks remain required.
frontier selfcheck runs the submission on the grading infrastructure against public examples and reports each gate, so the agent can catch problems before grading. Each run gets four. This agent used 2 of 4.

Final summary
Submission: LoRA fine-tune of Qwen2.5-VL-7B-Instruct (r=64, α=128, 2,500 steps on 40K filtered SciTikZ-230K examples, 1 epoch, merged to bf16 safetensors), served by vLLM 0.9.2 from fully offline vendored wheels. SciTikZ-Bench was never touched.
What this session added — the selfcheck caught a submission-killing flaw and I fixed it:
-
Selfcheck #1 failed:
--enforce-eagerdecoding at 41 tok/s meant the first public figure (dev-0000, a greedy enumeration looper) needed ~400s — over the 240s gate, and a real risk to the 7,200s batch deadline (score-zero failure mode). -
Diagnosed and A/B-tested three serving configs on the rented H100 before its lease expired:
- eager: 0.4155 dev50 score, but 41 tok/s and a 400s first figure (hard fail)
- V0 full CUDA graphs: 0.3873, 510 tok/s aggregate
- V1 torch.compile + piecewise graphs: 0.3729, 645 tok/s, first figure 6.5s — the three scores are tie-break noise (same model, perturbed near-ties; 33/50 answers differ between any two configs)
-
Shipped the fast config with
max_new_tokens: 10000ingeneration_config.json(vLLM takes the min with the request's 16,384, bounding loopers without truncating any observed legitimate response — max legit was 9,914 tokens). -
Selfcheck #2 passed all gates: startup 201.5s/300s, first figure 7.2s, 611-figure projection 1,429s/7,200s (80% spare), all responses closed-fenced under 64K chars.
Measured quality: dev50 0.373–0.416, holdout600 0.442 (82% compile) depending on serving mode. Architecture.json carries full provenance, and the evidence directory documents the config-selection rationale (data_manifest.md) with all three evaluation results.
