After grading, a reviewer model reads the submission's files and the agent's trajectory and checks each of the task's rules. A failed check makes the score 0. Step numbers link into the trajectory.

Training is declared and backed by evidence. architecture.json names the base model (Qwen/Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct at revision 0c351dd…), the data (a 16k subset of SciTikZ-230K train at revision 3061cc33…, seed 17) and the method (LoRA r=64 on the language-model projections, vision tower frozen, 1 epoch, merged). train.py, merge.py, train_log_excerpt.txt and training_summary.json match each other: 16000 rows loaded, 1000 steps, train_loss 0.3387, DONE. The trajectory shows the real run: launch at step 59, finish at steps 110-112, merge into the shipped model at step 113.

The model starts from the general Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct. train.py and merge.py load the base with Qwen3VLForConditionalGeneration.from_pretrained('Qwen/Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct'). data_download.log records a snapshot_download of that repo at the declared revision. model/config.json shows the standard qwen3_vl architecture. The trajectory never downloads or loads SciTikZer, DeTikZify, TikZero or any other TikZ specialist; the merge at step 113 uses the Qwen base plus the adapter the participant trained.

All training, selection and holdout data comes from the SciTikZ-230K parquet, downloaded at the declared revision per DATA_MANIFEST.md and data_download.log. At trajectory step 41, /workspace/subset.parquet is built by filtering that parquet down to the train/holdout ids. prep_data.py actually removes rows matching the public validation examples, which would have been allowed anyway. Checkpoint comparison used a 495-row holdout cut from the train split (steps 114-119, 127). No SciTikZ-Bench data or test split was used.

serve.sh starts a local vLLM OpenAI server on the fine-tuned VLM, and server.py forwards each image prompt to it. The model generates the LaTeX/TikZ itself. server.py only post-processes: it extracts the latex fence, wraps or closes the document, caps length and max_tokens. There is no retrieval, tracing, stored-answer lookup or external call. The output is editable TikZ source.

serve.sh runs vllm.entrypoints.openai.api_server with --model "$DIR/model" offline, and server.py proxies only to that local upstream. The trajectory shows how $DIR/model was produced: the merged checkpoint at /dev/shm/merged (step 113) was copied into /workspace/output/model (step 138). model/config.json matches a merged Qwen3-VL checkpoint. Serving makes no other model calls.

Searching the trajectory for API_KEY and BASE_URL found no participant use of ANTHROPIC, OPENAI, OPENROUTER or GEMINI keys or base URLs. The S3 pushes (steps 123-137) and the s5cmd copies (steps 138, 145) use Spin transfer session credentials, which the policy allows. The shipped server.py and serve.sh contain no harness credentials.
LLM adversarial review is not proof of arbitrary program behavior. Host storage and task-specific deterministic checks remain required.
frontier selfcheck runs the submission on the grading infrastructure against public examples and reports each gate, so the agent can catch problems before grading. Each run gets four. This agent used 1 of 4.

Model: LoRA fine-tune (r=64, 1 epoch, 16,000 examples, effective batch 16, lr 1e-4) of the general pretrained Qwen/Qwen3-VL-8B-Instruct @ 0c351dd01ed87e9c1b53cbc748cba10e6187ff3b — not the specialist SciTikZer model — merged to bf16 in model. Training data was a stratified, deduplicated subset of the SciTikZ-230K train split only (public dev-example overlaps, shell-escape/external-file code, and extreme lengths excluded); SciTikZ-Bench was never used, and checkpoint diagnostics used a disjoint 495-row holdout carved from the same train split. Provenance is recorded in architecture.json and DATA_MANIFEST.md, with training code in train.py, logs in training_summary.json, and download records in data_download.log.
Serving: serve.sh installs the vendored unmodified PyPI wheel closure (torch 2.8.0 / vLLM 0.11.0 / transformers 4.57.1, pinned in wheels-requirements.txt) into /tmp offline, launches vLLM, and fronts it with server.py, which only guarantees one closed ```latex fence containing a complete document — the model itself generates all TikZ from the image (no embedding, tracing, OCR, retrieval, or stored answers).
Verified results:
- Internal holdout (120 rows): fine-tuned TED proxy 0.581 vs 0.670 zero-shot base; pdfLaTeX compilation rate 0.667.
frontier selfcheckPASSED: startup 204.4s of 300s on H100, projected 611-figure time 1,715.8s of 7,200s at concurrency 16, all 48 sampled responses valid closed fences within limits.- Focused unit tests for the response normalizer pass (tests/test_clean_answer.py).
Remaining known limitation: the ~67% holdout compilation rate (mostly runaway-argument syntax errors) is the main score bottleneck; visual/code similarity improved over the base model but was only measured with proxy metrics offline.
